Nice one! Coincidentally (but probably not!) we saw the male of the related species Chelepteryx collesi at our place in Wonboyn tonight as well. Your specimen is a female.
Thanks Paul and KerriLee 😀 I've just started Misty (9), Isaac (6) and my Dad on NatureMapr after we saw the beautiful Moth tonight. How can you tell that it is a female? Jules
Hi Jules. Great that you’re recruiting new NatureMaprs! The male of this species, like many moths have very feathery antennae, which they use to detect the pheromones emitted by the female. Also, the underwing of the male has a bright red patch towards the front. This is brown on the female. Keep your spotters looking for the male - it’s probably around looking for the female!
Hi Jules, welcome to the Atlas and NatureMapr. I have left an outside light on the last few nights but haven't attracted anything yet, and I live on Tura Beach too.
