Confirmed as R. rubescens from local ecologists/botanist. >100 seedlings, though likely many being root suckers from large adult now deceased.

I think it has to be R.rubescens, following the key it seems that R.argentea should have a silvery white lower leaf surface which this plant doesn't. It does make sense looking at the latin.

Thanks Tapirlord. I see what your saying about the silvery underside of R. argentea.
If it is rubescens it is very significant, due to the number and the very large mature specimen that has been cut down.

That's a good point actually, I forget that R.rubescens is critically endangered. I'll leave the confirmation for now, but yes another look would be good if possible

Yeah that's what I thought. I don't want to raise it if it could possibly be something else. But in my 'Rainforests plants of Australia' key(Harden, Nicholson et al.,) there are only those 2 Rhodamnia species in this region so it seems likely it's rubescens.

No worries, good luck pursuing it if these plants do turn out to be R.rubescens. A great shame the stand was clear felled in the first place.
