This young plant, could this identify to any other candidate species ?

Including any other species not currently in the botanical key in the Flora of NSW online PlantNet ?

Your awareness please, including region–there awareness please;
before I consider more confirming this identification.

Hi Jason, I've edited the photos to include a close up of the venation on the back of the leaves.

Awesome ! Thank you.

Easy to get to this suggested _Cryptocarya microneura_ identification –as we both have here now.

Even while this tree does not show any fertile material.

Harder to disprove all the rest of the fitting candidates' _Cryptocarya_ species in the NSW North Coast region and
hard disprove a chance of an undescribed species –especially without any fertile material.

The botanical sources: Flora of NSW and the Rainforest Plants of Au Rockhampton to Vic,
say _Cryptocarya microneura_ has glabrous leaves (meaning hairless ICYDK).

Of course, sometimes young trees and saplings differ from the species descriptions usually based on mature trees' features.

Thank you so much for the guidance Jason. I will shift my attention to the mature specimens and familiarise myself with the local flowering and fruiting periods and monitor the canopy and forest floor for fruit and flowers.

Awesome .
Still working on these more.
Just went over to other work for a while.

Checked more other species possible± candidates across this Lauraceae botanical family .
From relevant features of this tree shown in these photographs I ruled out other candidates' (species).

The sparse, small, pale hairs photographed may well come from this young tree's growing and these hairs may well not grow in mature trees' leaves.

Then re-keyed and re-read the description of this species,
in both the Flora of NSW and the Australian Rainforest Plants: Rockhampton to Vic. .

Happily confident to confirm this young tree's identification to _Cryptocarya microneura_ as well now.
