This organism is totally black and (?at maturity?) looks like hairs;(is it in fact a lichen?). In the 2nd photo, some occasional hairs can be seen and I’m guessing this is how a cluster might begin. The 3rd , 4th & 5th photos shows black amongst the small green lichen that is logged at sighting 4647883.
(An)other black organism(s) (?lichen, ?mould?), logged at sighting 4647914, may also relate to this one.
Again as with all my ‘shade cloth canopy’ * lichen sightings, I know too little to be clear I am not conflating species whether within or across sightings. The other sightings relevant to that comment are: 4647881, 4647883, 4647896 (this one), 4647907, 4647914 & 4647961. There may be others added later as I learn to distinguish better. They will all mention the ‘shade cloth canopy’ if that’s where they’re growing.
* The shade cloth canopy itself collapsed a few years ago and a substantial amount of leaf litter has accumulated in the depression formed in the top, with several ferns & other plants colonizing the underside, rooting deep into the leaf litter, whilst the lichens and to some extent, mosses are mostly on the more exposed areas, where there is less/no leaf litter.
