Might be a Corymbia gummifera (Red Bloodwood) but it's hard to tell, it would be great if you can collect any fruit or flower buds from underneath the tree.
Yeah, often it's like that. Eucalypts, Corymbia and Angophora (Gums) can be quite difficult to identify without fruit, buds and leaves. If you don't find any it would be good opportunistically collect fruit/buds if you see them in the future as they provide valuable clues!
